SandmanNinja
Hi Dave, I have a quad core with 8 gigs of ram running XP64, and use Max 2008 Design (64-bit). The operating system does all the work for you. You won't have to put a command line switch on the shortcut or anything. It's a proper, stable, smooth, lean operating system. And - everyone asks this - it will only use the ram if it needs to use the ram.
Dave Buckley
ok joel so i installed xp 64 and i got max 64 etc, but when i look at my computer>properties, it is only showing 3.5gb RAM???? y is this??? i want 4gb
Crazy Homeless Guy
I would say add another 4gb for a total of 8. Also, depending on your video spec's, and the size of your models, tweaking Adaptive Degradation might be necessary. Getting the full potential out of max lies in your working methods as much as it does setting up the software properly itself. Unless you are using the new features in the Scene Explorer dialog, I would also revert that back to the old version. The new version is currently slower. alrawli
Also worth considdering if you have an Nvidia graphics card then the Maxtreme driver does make a bit of a difference.

Matt McDonald
The M90 is a laptop and won't take 8Gb of RAM. The reason that your system does not display 4Gb of RAM is due to memory mapping. A system typically moves the memory allocated for the PCI devices into unused memory space. Because the motherboard in your laptop only supports 4Gb of RAM and you have 4Gb of RAM there is no room to remap the memory to. Therefore Windows reports 3.something GB of RAM. If (for example) you had motherboard that maxed out at 8Gb of RAM and you filled it up, Windows would only report 7.something Gb of RAM due to the space occupied by your PCI devices. SandmanNinja
Yeah - what Matt said. I don't really consider Laptops as 'true' PCs. Hardward is too specialised.
