Robin3D
Hi, it's me again. This time, i've been encountering problems with the Arch & Design materials in 3dsmax 2009. I'm currently working with A&D materials only. But after some time, when i create a standard template it just stays the same as it is. It just stays a gray, glossy material. Even if I select glass, it stays the same. Now i've had this problem before, I tried restarting 3dmax, rebooting my pc. I tried to change a lot of settings. Nothing worked. Then I re-installed 3dmax and the problem was fixed. I don't feel like re-installing again, because it consumes so much time. Does anyone know what to do, because i'm getting a bit desperate. Dave Buckley
unfortunately you will have to re-install max but this time before you start saving material to library, go to the root of your 3ds max directory and find where the .mat file is saved for the A&D shaders, when you have found it, right click on it and click in the check box so that the file becomes 'read only' i found this annoying too
Robin3D
I sure hope that helps. Autodesk sure deserves a punch in the face for this BS. I pay about 2000 euro's for a piece of software, and this is what I get. One error after another. They should seriously test their stuff before selling it. Crazy Homeless Guy
Well, really this is user error. You saved over a library that was included with Max. The first thing I do when I get a new version of Max is duplicate the directory, and keep it as a backup. This way, I can retrieve the original copy of any file I modify. Robin3D
I never saved anything. All I did was putting A&D materials to a slot. But I'm not only talking about those materials. I'm talking about all the crashes every 2 hours too. 3D max is way too unstable.
SandmanNinja
I've used Max since version 8 and yeah, it crashes from time to time, but it's like a programming language - GIGO - Garbage In Garbage Out. If your scene is unstable, then Max won't behave properly. I think if Max crashed every 2 hours for everyone on this forum, then no one would use it. Maybe you have a virus. Maybe you have a corrupt Windows file. Maybe you have a wonky driver. When was the last time you cleaned your temp files and defragged your HD? Robin3D
I clean my temp every day and defrag about once a month. It's not the hardware or OS, i'm sure of that. My colleagues have the same issues.
