jophus14
I don't have any of these models but these are the best out there that I know of. Some day I will own a few of these models.
Jason Matthews
I also bought the sugar 3d cars and have had great results. The best thing is that most of the cars have the body seperate so you can change the color. They have both vray and scanline models for one price. Crazy Homeless Guy
i don't know how sugar's cars are put together, but with Vray you will want a car whose glass has a physical dimension to it. 2d geometry does not render well for glass in Vray, even with refraction set to 1. you can try to add a shell modifier tot he glass, but sometimes it is not simple that simple, depending on how the geometry is modeled. at least this has been my experience using Dosch and Vray. alfienoakes
Hey guys.. Just stumbled across this thread.. Looking at sugar3d stuff.. cars look good, but as Travis says, how does the glass workout in vray with the standard downloaded models from these guys..? i downloaded a demo car, but it was all in Max Standard materials? Just wondered as I need some fast results for a project.. Cheers
jophus14
You have the option to purchase with Standard or Vray materials applied.
alfienoakes
Cheers Joseph.. Thought that maybe the case, just wanted to check. Typical that the demo one is standard mats..

alfienoakes
OK.. Just a little update here.. I bought 3 cars from Sugar3D.. No problems dealing with them, quick and efficient transaction.. good looking models. Downloaded the Vray versions, so I could pop these babies into my scene and get going... Thought I would have a look at them on their own first.. see how they scrub up. Opened up the first one, an Audi Q7.. Rendered OK in Vray, but noticed an issue with the materials. Out of 13 materials in the model, 10 of them were Vray materials.... now this isnt good, as we all know, Vray gets funny if you try and use standard materials in a Vray scene.. OK.. lets look at the other 2.. Alfa GT.. 17 materials, 1 of them Vray.. and the Cooper.. 17 materials, 1 of them Vray. I have emailed Sugar for an explanation, and what I should do next. I purchased these fully textured models, so that I can just get on with the process of finishing my scene, not to now spend hours trying to convert all the materials to be compatible with the renderer that I bought them for..!! Yes, you can use the Vray Scene converter, but it destroys most of the settings on the standard materials, as they are made up of MSO's.. Wondering how other people have got by with this, and waiting for a reply from Sugar3D Cheers Edited September 8, 2008 by alfienoakes

alfienoakes
Just to follow up.. The guys from sugar3d re-looked at my models, and resent them back out to me, with nearly all of the materials set up as Vray mats. The only thing is, if you do want to use ALL vray mats, you will need to add a shell modifier to the windsheilds.. at least on the models I purchased. I think they are still a very good set, once you tweak them.

Jeff Mottle
Check out these new cars: http://cgarchitect.vismasters.com/catalog/viewproduct.aspx?product=4508 They're new, better, and made by the same guy that Sugar3D hired In fact this IS that guy's site:http://www.archcars.com/ You can also buy individually if you buy from them directly or as a bundle on VisMasters
Matt McDonald
[vent] It kills me when you see good looking car bundles (like the one on Vizmasters) and find out that half the cars (the real ones) aren't available in the US. I'm sure its just as frustrating if you are on the other side of the pond (which ever pond that may be). I don't understand why the packs aren't regionally themed.
