VRay Dome Light or GI Environment Skylight

I am just in the process of upgrading my rendering arsenal to include VRay, after successfully achieving nothing with Mental Ray (just kidding - i just want more firepower on my CV)

However, as expected, i have a few questions. I believe the Vray dome light carries out a similar function to that of a skylight, but i also believe this can be replicated using the GI Environement in the vray render setup window

why would one choose one over the other and it what situation???

OOO and attached is my first Vray render (very simple scene) not bad considerin i have been learning in my spare time over the last 2 days

Lit with GI environment only and HDRI reflections, irradiance map and light cache, hsv exponential, adaptive dmc and i think thats about it. too many settings to remember atm
