vizfx
If you subscribe on the www.caligari.com site you have access for free even for learning resources pdf manuals and wmv (video) tutorials. To make the things more interesting V-ray rendering plugin, which is the favorite among industry, it is at a reasonable price. http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/VRay1p0.asp?Cate=BRendering_vray I think this is great news at least for beginners and those who cannot afford a big investment. Other good choices (or maybe complementary) would be Blender (www.blender.org ) and Google Sketchup
AJLynn
Does the Vray version have the same feature set as the other Vrays? (At $299?!) Anybody here ever used Truespace?
vizfx
Some interviews (architecture case studies) – Truespace users http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/solutions_architecture.asp http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/architecture_case_study1.asp http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/architecture_case_study2.asp It`s true, Truespace cannot be compared with the power offered by the 3DS Max but now it`s free and offers good results. So there is no question, it`s a good starting point in the business.

creasia
I am atempting to learn it now. It's version of Vray seems somewhat powerfull, but the usergroup wishes it had more user support so that it could have more features included in future plugin releases. What is very cool, is that it has a Renderman exporter to the 3Delight free render engine for only $35, which inlcudes displacement mapping, fur and the usual Renderman raytracing quality. AJLynn
That's interesting - 3Delight is free for the first license but they charge for additional licenses. Pretty cool business model - so students and people learning the software can get it free but they get money from anybody using it in full scale production. 3dSol
I also used T.S. while at school, it is a great tool and should be as useful as MAx for arch viz modeling and great that it can be used with Vray, great news indeed!
