carlos_7
Hi guys, I have a problem with some shadows. I am using a couple of spot lights with shadow maps. I have a hall with a door and the light behind the door is leaking through the wall. Any idea how to solve this? Thank you very much, PD: I would post a picture but I don't have a URL so far

STRAT
classic light leakage. 1) turn the light's bias down to 0 2) you mustn't have faces running through faces - each wall and junction in the wall MUST match up perfectly, all verts must weld up. carlos_7
Thank you STRAT for your help I set the Bias to 0. And the problem of the faces is doubled checked to make sure is ok. When I did the walls I made them from a plane extruding the faces so there shouldn't be any vertex unwelded. I hope you have any other suggestion. Take care
STRAT
can you post a simple wire frame piccy of the walls mesh please?
carlos_7
Thank you again for your help Strat. This is an image of the room. I extruded the faces from a box and cut away the faces for the door, then fix the open faces of the sides, so it should be any unwelded vertex where I am having the problem. I hope the image can help. http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=extruded-faces2.jpg Thanks
STRAT
it looks like the wall with the doorway cut out if it actually goes into the main wall on the left there. on the right it sails all the way through it. make sure the wall edges meet up exactly together and actually weld together. there should be no walls going through walls or anything like that. carlos_7
How can I check that the edges are welded together?
STRAT
if your working in max, and you've modelled the walls and edges EXACTLY matching up to each other, they'll automatically weld together if all the walls are part of the same object when you bring them into max. even if those 2 walls are separate objects, they dont have to be welded. they only have to match edges exactly. no sailing through or over laping or intersecting or just placing faces against/through faces. email me a dxf of that bit of the mesh and i'll check it out if you want. STRAT
this ok? i just took a look at your mesh you e-mailed me. the structure of the mesh was ok, as you pointed out (very poly heavey tho, too many steps in the extrution process). Your problem was with your lighting settup. fix it like this - 1) select and modify SPOT03 2) in SHADOW MAP PARAMS change the BIAS from your original 3.0 down to 0.0 change your MAP SIZE from 256 up to 500 change your SAMPLE RANGE from 5 up to 20 3) then in the SHADOW PARAMETERS roll out change the DENS. from 1 to 4. your lighting rig needs work anyway, but this will sort out your problem.
