Peter M. Gruhn
Happened to me before. Don't remember if I cured it or gave up in disgust. I'm in Max 9. I used to be able to use Mental's DoF. Now when I try to do it I get transparent geometry. The effect is kinda nice; not what I want; not blurry. I'm running asimple demo now with a plane and some teapots. Works great. Possible issues don't seem to be issues "wrong pattern of the two places to turn on DoF," "standard materials," "unpopular political opinions," etc. Anybody know what's going on here? shaneis
I've no idea what has happened there, are you rendering a separate zDepth pass and comping it in? If not, I'd recommend it. You could try the zDepthDOF MR shader... http://homepage.mac.com/bauer/portfolio_shaders/zDepthDOF/zDepthDOF.html#Download It's better than the MR DOF and supports transparency. Not too sure how it will go in the later versions of Max though.
pixelperfectg
It's a bug with aerial perspective & DOF. Turn off Aerial perspective on the mrSky. It's been a while since I used Max9, but I'm fairly certain this bug was fixed in a service patch for Max9. I know it's no longer an issue in 2008 or 2009. Peter M. Gruhn
> You could try the zDepthDOF MR shader... Nice, but I don't have a useful depth based blur tool. I'll probably snag it. Besides, the MR should and can work.

I know I was playing with that this time. Must have been the previous time. The sky is one of the things I deleted in my attempt to strip it down and get it working. Got it working. Put in a new sky. Left the AP at how ever it defaulted and kind of forgot about it. NOW that you remind me, I want it back.... Photoshop.
