Guest Tomass
Hi Guys, Can someone please tell me how to create textures? that can be used for displacement mapping. Also bitmaps for bump mapping, is this done in Photoshop with Jpegs? It seems that sketchup materials have jpegs concealed within there personalised material format, making it impossible to create a bitmap from them. Would be most grateful for any pointers. thomthom
Bump maps and displacement maps are grayscale images where white is the high points and black is the low points. Often a quick an dirty map can be created by desaturating the original texture and increasing the contract to get a clear definition of the high and low points. Also bitmaps for bump mapping, is this done in Photoshop with Jpegs? I'm not quire sure what you mean by this. You're comparing an application with a fileformat. You can use any image apllication to create the bump maps. And the file format can be any format the V-Ray for SketchUp supports. I prefer not to use JPEGs due to the loss of qulity as a result of the JPEG compression. I use mainly use PNG as it compresses the iamges without any loss of quality. It seems that sketchup materials have jpegs concealed within there personalised material format, making it impossible to create a bitmap from them. Concealed? A SketchUp material is not an image format. SketchUp materials uses JPEG as well as BMP, PNG, GIF and TIFF as textures. And then it includes some mapping information. You can right click on a material in the material editor and choose "Export texture image"
