mbr
I need to create a field of wild grass surrounding a house. This image is what the client sent me. I would like to animate it (just a fly around, not the grass) eventually, but I am only being paid for a few stills. So far, photoshoping it all in looks like the only way, which eliminates any chance of an animation. Any ideas? Thanks.

mbr
Looks nifty, but I will be using Final Render. I should look into their displacement, then?

I don't know what kind of displacement options FR has (I imagine it is pretty simular). One animation I did for my daughter a couple of years ago was painting the map with an impresionalistic brush and then animating the uvw map to move like the grass was blowing in the wind. Looked pretty nice but it was a very flat 2 map look. Doran, I don't know if v-ray "light" has displacment. To create the grass I just modeled the benches, added a uvw box map, added a displacement modifier chose the same grass image (not a grey scale image that looked too regular) and set amount to 7.
Victor Erthal
If you are using fr stage 1 you should try the mtd, or micro triangle displacement. It work well and the product ships with the training videos. I recomend using it if the grass is short. Check out at www.suurland.com , there is a great grass tutorial, could be a little heavy to render but looks fine. []
