AFK_Matrix
Hi, Ok I am hating the new Select by Name and unhide list things in Max 2009. I heard there is a way to revert back to how they are in Max 9, how do you do this?
mattclinch
1. Make sure 3ds Max is not running. 2. Using Explorer, navigate to the following location: Windows XP 32 bit build: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 32bit\enu\defaults\MAX\ Windows XP 64 bit build: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 64bit\enu\defaults\MAX\ Windows Vista 32 bit build: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 32bit\enu\defaults\MAX\ Windows Vista 64 bit build: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 64bit\enu\defaults\MAX\ 2. Open the CurrentDefault.ini file using Notepad. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the file, and find the [scene Explorer] section 4. Change the following line: SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=1 To: SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=0 5. Launch 3ds Max 2008. AFK_Matrix
I take it all that should actually be 2009 not 2008? And thanks for the info.
DavidR
I hate it too, especially that it doesn't show things alpabetically. I know I can click on the top header to get alpha order, but the next time I open the panel, it's a mixed-up mess again. wtf Autodesk?
Logitek
I hate it too, especially that it doesn't show things alpabetically. I know I can click on the top header to get alpha order, but the next time I open the panel, it's a mixed-up mess again. wtf Autodesk? It shows the objects by order of creation. I don't like it that much either, but it can be helpful sometimes... You might as well get used to it now, because I'm pretty sure Autodesk won't go back to the old select tool in Max 2010 (and who knows, you might not even be able to switch to the old selecting tool like it's possible now). My 2 cents anyways
Joseph Petrino
Mattclinch Thanks, that works great (2009). Worst "new feature" yet.
AFK_Matrix
Yeah they are really annoying me as I am used to having the list in alphabetical order, its driving me crazy having to constantly sort them. And this isn't the most annoying thing, thats the taking away of the left click + shift to copy combo!!! You now have to use Ctrl-V which is so annoying. Thanks for the info Mattclinch, will give it a go tonight.
mdviz
I also find the new select window a pain when it clears you last used setting. ... If Autodesk made it remember the last used options it would be better. And add an option to toggle back to the old version as both have uses. maybe in the next release.... or some one might write a script to do it
SandmanNinja
I, too, did not like the new scene explorer. But a wicked-cool video from Bri at http://www.mentalboutmax.com showed me a few tips-n-tricks. You can go to the Column Chooser and turn it into a mini-Light Lister (useful for when Light Lister stops working). Pretty sure you can save your settings, too.
