Just read a quiet insightful little article summing up the Bejing Olympics that I feel has caputured the gereral staid controlled boring vibe of this Olympics, and then contrasts what the London olympics might be 'fun filled chaos.

and 2 mildlyfunny quotes:

For all their slick management and the great sporting display, it should be said that China's Games were spectacularly, creepily humourless. There was not one iota of good natured fun-poking.

...the organising committee explained of the ordinary Chinese: "Everybody is happy. That is a fact."

I read something on ESPN.com that mentioned the same very serious tone that these games had contrasting it with the Sydney games.

I'll say from a distant spectator's point of view that my family and I had a great time watching almost every evening the events on TV. I even stayed up untill 3:30 AM to watch the US vs. Spain gold medal basketball game. I'm glad I did becuase it was one for the ages. That actually sums up my thoughts about the game and that was that the competition was fantastic. At least what I saw. Phelps winning by .01 seconds, Bolt's godly performance, US vs. Spain, and many others will be remembered for a long time.
