schmoron13
I have a kitchen cabinet that I'm modeling, but I'm trying to be a little more organic in design and thus am lofting for the first time. I made an outline of the shape for the cabinet with the Spline-line tool, using smoothing initial and drag types, so there's like 260 vertices. Then I created four spline-lines, each straight, measuring 8',9',10',& 12'. Everything was done in the top viewport (plan view). I selected the outline, and lofted it to the first path (8'), but no matter what I do, when I hit on get path to select a 2nd shape, it converts the entire loft to that shape. I've tried messing with the settings, but the help files are rather ambigious, and Ted Boardman's lofting 2 tutorial doesn't seem to help me, though it's perfect for the job. Am I missing something about lofting? HELP!! [ November 21, 2003, 03:33 AM: Message edited by: schmoron13 ]
jucaro
It would really help us help you if you could post a picture of the splines.

quizzy
If I could only understand what you are trying to do, then i could help you out.... extrude? what is the end product you are creating? why do you want to start the loft shape in the middle of the path (make the path shorter, and its not possible BTW)? I think you think too difficult for a simple thing to model...
xgarcia
I would suggest using splines and give it a sruface modifier...just non-uniform scale each spline as you move it down the length of the cabinet. It's still unclear what kinda shape you want from the cabinet. Maybe sketch it out real quickfor us in photoshop.
CRD
I believe your problem comes when you assign the next shapes. When you create a loft, you only choose the initial shape in the create tab. Then you go to the modify tab, and choose your next shapes (Get Shape) in sequence as you move along the Path on Path Parameters. Hope that's what you're looking for. schmoron13
First off, thanks for the responses everyone!!! the strange thing is, since I didn't bring the actual file with me to work, I couldn't try it, but I quickly made a circle, and lofted it along a number of shapes, and using the multiple steps, it worked fine, so mabye in my cabinet outline (spline), there's something screwy going on? :???: None the less, I'll try it as soon as I get home, and I can always redo the outline...thanks again everyone...updates coming soon (I hope)
schmoron13
and as for the bad terminlology, wine, sleep deprivation, and explaining problems at 3 in the morning, when you'd have a hard time explaining the problem under normal terms, isn't the brightest idea :angeuhoh: :ngelaugh:
