Brian Cassil
I got max 6 in the mail a couple of days ago and I am now setting it up with all my plugins and the like. There is one thing that has me worried a little though, you see, a few weeks ago while I was still working in Max 5 I got a new computer here at work and with it got a quadro FX 1000 video card. I installed the latest drivers together with the Maxtreme drivers for use in Max and the performance was better than I could have imagined. I was orbiting, panning, and zooming in scenes that were around a million polys with absolutely no slow down. So now that I have Max 6 here I would like to be able to do the same thing only problem is when I install the Maxtreme drivers/plugins for Max 6 I get errors and the display baisically doesn't work at all. So I try switching to directX 9 and that doesn't work either (Yes, I have installed the latest versions of directX). That leaves me with open GL or software mode and the performance is considerably worse that what I was experiencing in Max 5 with the maxtreme display. Nvidia won't answer questions regarding drivers so they are no help. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
isagreg
There is no MAXtreme for MAX 6 yet, and I think you're stuck with either DX9 or OGL. But it's very strange that DX9 doesn't work, it should work and should work very well.
abicalho
I have an NVidia Quadro FX 1000 and DX9 works fine here for me. In fact, it's the default video mode I use. Alexander
Brian Cassil
I can't get DX9 to work for me on max6 at all. However I did have it working on max5 (although the maxtreme driver was much better). I wonder if I need to revert to an older or newer version of the nvidia driver. Right now I'm using 43.03. That's what the nvidia website says is certified for use with max/viz. However I wonder if that is still refering to max 5 and max 6 would need a different driver to work with direct x. That sounds unlikely but it's all I can think of right now. Alexander, could you tell me what version of the nvidia driver you have installed? abicalho
Version 44.65. If you run DxDiag.exe it will tell you which version of DX9 you have. Mine is 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902) Alexander
Brian Cassil
That did it! I uninstalled the 44.03 and installed the 44.65 driver then set max to use directX 9.0 and it finally worked. I guess nvidia needs to update what they recommend for use with max on their web site. Thanks for the help! P.S. Also, it's nowhere near the performance I was getting with maxtreme so I'll be on the lookout for maxtreme for max6.
