CEJ
Just posted a topic about the Expose 1 book from ballistic publishings, and it got me thinking. What are everyones top 5 CG areas of inspiration? Whether it be books, film, web or some other form of media, I think it would be good to hear about it? Cheers

tcorbett
Wow. That's a lot harder than it sounds - I dig it. I don't think I could condense it to 5, because I look for different things in different mediums. Obviously Pixar films and Shrek, since watching them you forget it's a computer generated movie. Jimmy Neutron is good for some texturing / lighting ideas as well. Movies that use just the right amount of CG for the right reasons. The first Matrix, but not the second or third that had so much CG that it became noticable and drawn out. Video games too. Quake and Unreal are great for texturing and lighting, and I'm a big fan of mouse / keyboard realtime navigation. If I had to pick a number one? Grand Theft Auto: Vice CityI don't think there is a more comprehensive piece of CG artistry and programming than this. Real violent, yes, but so much fun to play, and even more fun to figure out how they did it. Beautiful scenery, the right ambient and background cues, and sophisticated asset management let you forget that it's a game. Hands down my favorite. nisus
Not too hard one to crack imho... I used to loved the very early 3d computergames, later movies were some influence,... The more I grew up, the older my influencer are... Traditional artists, painters, sculptors... Ah! Recently: none of cg is my real influence... It's nature: sunlight, trees, storms, bodies (women/men), texture,... all real life... and the real old masters trying to crack their vision on art rgds nisus

I always have a look at others 3D Work while I'm creating to see whats good and not good. I'm having a new loft built which will be ready soon. I think it will be a great inspirational environment. : )
