Frosty
I'm currently looking for a medium to high-res model of Washington DC. I know the topic of city data has come up in the past and I have reviewed past threads. The only thing I can find so far is a low res model from Digimation. Any other suggestions? ikinman
The two main companies that have city model data sets for sale of Washington DC are Sanborn and Earthdata I'm not certain what you mean by 'high detail,' but both of these are massing models with no windows/doors, etc. They are both accurate, however; in the case of Earthdata's they are accurate to within 3' or less in all dimensions. Of the two, Sanborn's is a weaker model, with no sidewalks modeled, simpler building forms, but they cover a larger area. Earthdata's models (full disclosure - I was involved in the creation of them) have more detail to the building, such as parapets and sidewalks, so that I would have to say that the quality as far as visualization is better, though the coverage area is a bit less. But bear in mind that these are massing models with no textures, so don't expect them to be ready to do a photorealistic fly around animation of the entire city. Feel free to contact me for any questions on the Earthdata models. -Ian
