Ruth
Hello, I'm a 3DS Max instructor with no experience using CAD. My students are trying to import their .DWG files, but their walls do not show up in 3DS Max (version 5). They are using AutoDesk Architectural Desktop 3.3 to create their files. We have tried different import settings, but the only objects that show up are extrusions or geometry of sinks, stoves, etc. The walls and windows are not appearing. Any help is much appreciated. --Ruth
STRAT
heehee, deja-vue i find ADT still generally niggly and buggy. .3DS is usually the way to import, but if ur having problems importing certain ADT objects, then either try dwg linking, dxf'ing or last resort exploding the objects then importing a .3ds Viz and max wont alway reccognise ADT objects or solids unless they be exploded. Ruth
Thanks again, STRAT Exploding worked. --Ruth

abicalho
VIZ will recognize ADT Objects through File Link. It won't recognize them through Import. You'll need to explode all ADT Custom Objects (walls, doors, windows, etc) prior to importing them in 3dsmax. If you have the Design Extension for 3dsmax, you can also use File Link to read the ADT file. Always make sure you either have ADT installer, or the Object Enabler. I do not advice using 3DS Export. Exploding the drawing and importing as DWG is the best way to go. Alexander | discreet Quality Engineer
kid
crisis over Strat, do you know if saving an ADT .dwg back to a R14 or 2000 .dwg will make them export to other programs better? as I might be doing some illustration for a firm I know uses ADT. STRAT
kid - yeah, that figures. transforms the ADT properties.
Fernando Lino
Hi Ruth! Maybe you are exporting the model from plan view...the wall has different displays, you need to use an isometric view and select the object...after that you can open in 3ds Max
Ruth
Yes, now I am able to export to .3ds and successfully import it. I am not sure what I am doing differently than before, though perhaps it was the view, or having selected the object in ADT. Tomorrow I'll see if I can replicate my results with the students' files....until then! Thanks, --Ruth
