Flickering in Dense Geometry Areas Problem

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im having problems with an animation im working on and could really use some help. I seem to have a flickering noise type thing in far away areas with dense geometry like tree's and bushs. Their doesn't seem to be any other noise anywhere and the noise disappears as you get closer to the object.

Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this? Im useing Vray and 3DS Max 9.

Thanks alot in advance.

I'd put some sort of blur on them.

It sounds like an antialiasing issue that I read about. When something is far away, there isn't a clear place where the pixels start and stop. (Man, I'm really saying this poorly)

You can try either putting a touch of blur on the texture of the objects way back there, or try DOF with a big, proper DOF in the front, and have it kick in just before the objects.

Hope this helps.

you can do a number of things together or pick and choose which works best:

-render a zdepth pass and apply a bit of distance blur

-use a blurring AA filter like Area, Video or Quadratic, animations do need to be as sharp as stills, I often add grain and blur anyway.

- Up your DMC settings to somethign like 2/5 and work up from there

- motion blur can help alot as well, either do it through the camera (slow but good) or render a velocity pass and use in comp. (iv had limited luck with this though, maybe i havent done it properly) or use a tiny bit of something like ReelSmartMotionBlur in post with out a velocity channel.
