haha yes. they don't get any detailed non repeating textures or eleborate landscape.

That begs the question....

how many of you and how often do you all get to work on a project with very good design. One that excites and inspires you.

At the moment I seem to be stuck with projects of average or "regional" design.

I understand that the market may dictate this, especially now.

Just wonderin what the ratio of good design projects v. bad or uninspiring design projects may be that we get to work on as visualizers.

ill start by saying, 20% good, 80% not so much

so 20/80.

cheers,

Heh. No, I'm saying that I appreciate that the good texture work doesn't go into a crap project so I'm not going to crit that.

To answer your other question, I work in an architecture firm and don't do a heck of a lot of rendering any more, when I do it's one of our projects, usually one of my own, so I'm only rendering top-notch design.

Agree with all the comments... (brick and stone texture, car reflections and shadow).

Other than that, it looks good.

What are you using for shrubs? RPC, 3d object, post work in Photoshop?

I like your landscaping and I have a REAL hard time getting mine to look good.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I definitely agree with all the comments. I probably wont be fixing anything just because it was a quick job for a dull design, but in future renders i will implement your suggestions.

I didnt spend much time on the textures for this one and with stone it definitely shows. :) (plus you gotta love the tiling on the CMU)

The high gloss and reflection on the jaguar was also a last minute mistake. Paint color was too dark, and not having time to re-render I did a mask in Photoshop and just lightened it. Kinda made it super high gloss. Lets just pretend its a rich guy with too much turtle wax...haha.

As far as the shadows... I guess I didnt spend alot of time with the lighting setup. That is always a big mistake when tryin to make a boring render look better.

Landscape: Bushes are 2d in Photoshop. I dont have a particular technique, but I usually place a plant, play with the saturation, color, and shadows to match each scene. The trees are 3d Xfrog trees.

Thanks again for all the great comments.

Maybe you did too good a job on the plants. In the future for a job like this I'd recommend you drop the resolution on the plants to something much lower than the scene then scale them back up with the transform tool, and fake a bad alpha channel by making a copy, blowing it out to white, using blur, blowing it out again and putting it behind the plants (this will simulate the white edges of a bad plant graphic).

Now we're talkin'. Lens flare always adds that extra level of realism, and showing people is important as it gives you "an idea of the scale". The roller skater shows the quality of the asphalt, but I'm a bit concerned about the potential for collision between cars and roller skaters.

well look at the motion blur on the car...its movin so fast it wont hit her. I did the calculations. and of course the transparency on the trees to make sure we can see the building.

(It will rock if i get some more critiques)

but wait the lens flare IS the sun...dont you see the shadow on the really fast car and the cool foreground tree?

thanks guys for the fun. sometimes doin these mundane images drives me nuts. hopefully get to post something cool soon, and unfortunately on the next one i will be leaving out roller skate lady. ;)

cheers,
