alexliu
hi anyone using artvps raybox? can you share your experience with the latest AV6.5 feature such as realtime reflection HDRI shader? Rendering performance on real project? Pros and Cons? or Even tutorials? How's performance compared with Mental Ray or V-Ray? Any materials shaders library download? Any case study? Thanks for your sharing....
3dp
can't say for raybox but a longtime ARTVPS user (9 years) i found the hardware rock solid i've used the renderdrives up to and including rd64 (which would be twice the foorprint and half the speed) pro's rock solid stabilty, used correctly it's really fast, simple interface for rendering, for raytrace glass, cars, shiny things in general - can't be beat in my opinion cons expensive, limited user base, limited polygon counts (unless you use MR proxies - not 100% sure about this). ARTVPS GI is not really production standard it's a extra box i.e. no on the fly renders in client meeting can't compare really it's apples and oranges but a ARTVPS workflow has usually delivered for myself
alexliu
hi 3dp: Great I finally meet a renderdrive or raybox user over the internet world...Since i am a beginner of raybox, i have a question as follow: I am using AV6.5, there is a new RPSkyline function, it give you realtime reflection feature with mirror shader. I follow the new release note tutorial but found that there is maxenviornment shader missing problem? do you how to solve it? For some reason, ARTVPS technical support team is not in town so i need other user help.... Thanks for your help.... Alex
3dp
hi hmmm thats a strange one and i hold my hands up because i have not installed the 6.5 build as i'm working away from home having said that i have tended to stay away from mapped skylights and place the hdri in the enviroment slot and then control the placement of sun in mat editor to match the 3ds sun locations or otherway around if i was camera matching a live scene for montage i do have the odd occasion where it won't find the skylight shader but this i've not seen while i'm on some other tips you don't need huge render image quality 2500 pixels wide at IQ 67 is more than enough for sunlight i use (and thais has been for afew years now 1 rpskylight 90 spread for sky 1 skylight on 0-5 for sun and 5 or 6 non shadow casting ominis below ground level with a combinded multipler 0.15-0.25 i'll sometimes add a ambient occulde pass using max mentalray if the sccene needs it almost gi with the time overheads.............. sorry i can't be more help
