david.jones
I am trying to create a structure which is kind of lizard shaped, and i am experimenting with the kind of birds nest effect that was used on the olympic stadium. I have created the basic volume with a loft, with twist and scale modifiers along its length. I have managed to create something similar to the birds nest with a series of lofts using differing twist factors, so that members spiral in opposite directions along its length. Can you suggest alternative methods for creating that effect on a tapering shape?
SandmanNinja
I saw MegaStructures on the Discovery Channel and they showed it from start to finish - it was very interesting. It reminded me of a spir-o-graph I had as a child. I think splines/lofts/modifiers would be the way I'd tackle it. I guess the alternative would be, what?, polyediting? I think no matter the actual method, once you get a few 'right', then it's just a bunch of cloning from there.
