Nic H
yep, its always the case isnt it. I have used fractal enlarge pro previously to blow up images to this res when we knew the textures couldnt hold up at that res.
SandmanNinja
By the way, the Split Render script works GREAT! It makes it very conservative on the system resources and you just nudge them into their proper place in Photoshop. The output gets dumped into the My Documents\3dsmax\sceneassets\images folder. Thanks for the script.

Spacelord
Nice work Ky, Do know is this for the Macrossan in Brisbane ? on Macrossan st ? If so I did some Viz for these guys years ago of the exterior of the building. For your alpha's you can use the script called Render mask, its really easy to use. Or if you keen check out L-Pass manager, its nice, similar to XSI's pass system.

Its going on a huge outdoor sign, should be interesting. Thanks for the advice.
Ky Lane
Well, after weeks of to'ing and fro'ing, we finally got the image finalised. using Zap's split render script, I had to render out a 21,000 x 3000 pixel image. Most of the texture maps held up, a few didnt - overall Im pretty happy with it, Im just sick of looking at it now! Need some fresh eyes! Keep in mind that the BG is temporary (they need to shoot something mega high res) and that this image is less than 1/4 the final image size. Spacelord
Turned out really nice. Does the ceiling need that many downlights ? theres so many. I like the new artwork, interesting having the lift open out into the dining room, I think I like that. I've been rendering a couple of images at 6000px X 3750 with loads of glossies, its taking forever. I will eventually put them up. What are you render times ? cheers

I didnt want to have so many downlights, but the client did. i think for my records, Ill take 5mins and photoshop a few out. Then again, the angle is very shallow, and its actually fairly accurate as its quite deep from the mullions to the elevator bay - to technically, yes - there should be that many - doesnt mean it looks good though. Render times... it took about 45min to store the FG at medium settings and at 5000px wide, and it took about 7hrs to splitrender the 21,000x3000 image out, ready for photoshop. jjackson
Brilliant work! the only thing that bothers me are the spotlights not being centered on the art work.
innerdream
Brilliant work! the only thing that bothers me are the spotlights not being centered on the art work. Good looking job. Ditto. If you're going to have wall washers they need to be centered.
Ky Lane
Thanks guys - was another client request. They didnt want everything looking so "square and perfect" and mixed things up a bit. The flooplan is a little oddly shaped too, but I sat with the interior designer and thats what she wanted *shrug*.

Then pack up your desk and storm out.
Ky Lane
Well, you look them straight in the eye and tell them they're just plain wrong! Then pack up your desk and storm out. Very constructive I rendered out a low (5000x800) version to demonstrate how odd it looked, and I got "Oh wow, thats perfect!" *shrug* They're paying the bill so, they can have it look however they please. I make a note of only expressing my opinion once - and if they chose to ignore it, then I know where I stand.

shaneis
I rendered out a low (5000x800) version to demonstrate how odd it looked, and I got "Oh wow, thats perfect!" Don't you just love it when designers' epiphanies go un-checked. I wonder if they think that a new owner of one of these apartments will sit back after having spent $X00,000 or more and say, "I just love how all the lights actually miss the artwork. It's genius I tell you, pure genius. You really do get what you pay for." Some things just look cheap, unnatural and wrong...(see below)
