Sustainable Software?

I am interested in knowing what sort of tools exist out there for guiding the design of a project toward sustainability. This would include pretty much anything that helps us design toward LEED standards. Tools we could use to help guide the design to be more sustainable, rather than just measure it's performance after it has been designed.

I understand that Ecotect is very popular in doing these types of studies and we are going to look at it very closely, but before we do I would like to see if anyone has some experience with doing these sort of studies and if there are some limitations that Ecotect has that other software might to better. Baisically, we are going to have a brainstorming of simulation software.

I just went to a lecture last week on energy modeling, and one of the engineers who spoke mentioned the following programs:

EQuest

HAP

Trace

Energy-10

Visual DOE

I haven't used any of these, but they might be a good place to start. One thing he mentioned is that no single application does everything well. They work with several tools depending on the problem they're trying to solve. Hope this helps.
