gsscott50@hotmail.com
Hi, Im currently in the middle of modelling a 3d site for a proposed cottage design. The main task is to show the new design in its context so it can gain planning permission (it has already been turned down). I have modelled the new cottage and am now trying to use the camera match facility to get an accurate angle for the montage. This bit is easyish but I am struggling to get the site elements to look right in conjunction to the source image that I need to use. The perspective is all wrong and I am struggling to think of a better way. Can anyone help? Appreciate your time!!!
Claudio Branch
I have never used Max's camera-matching utility. I prefer using my eyballs. It helps to know somethings about your photo though. How far away is the subject, where is the sun and what size lens is being used. Finally, if the backgound photo is bad, your rendering will be bad. Trust me... gsscott50@hotmail.com
oh... the photo is poor. but I am tied to using it im afraid. this is going to be used as evidence for the architects when trying to get planning permission so I need to supply a methodolgy which explains how I sited the proposed design onto the photograph. I don't think they would appreciate if i wrote - I placed it where it looked good. Although that is the method I usually use. Cheers for your reply tho claudio! Claudio Branch
... the photo is poor. but I am tied to using it im afraid. This is most unfortunate. Taking a decent digital picture nowadays is easier than changing a diaper...and I have done BOTH for several years! Anyways, good luck. Post up the image when you're done
SandmanNinja
Can you obtain some DEM files of the actual site and just model it? "As you can see in the Site Plan Geophysical data as provided by the U.S. Department of Geology..."
gsscott50@hotmail.com
yeah I have modelled the site using ordnance survey data but the most accurate data I have is 5m contours. the site is really uneven and the contour data is not detailed enough to provide an accurate visualisation of the terrain. *scratches head
adricorrea
You could also use any other element that is within the site and that also is in your OS map, such as adjacent properties, a lamp post, a big tree, etc, so at least you can make sure that regarding X and Y your model is in the right location:p
Tommy Burns
What we do here is get some points surveyed usally 5, place your scene on the right co-ords. With the surveyed points you have something accurate to match your camera and image to. Max works out the perspective if it's done right. You might want to read up on this a lot more cause it can be a little tricky and for planning it does have to be very accurate.
