frankie_boy
Hi Everyone, Currently, I’m working as an Architectural Designer (5 yrs experience) for an international firm. Doing some sketches, conceptual designs, etc…I really admired my officemates (the renderers) doing the great sexy final images of buildings of what I designed. I’m always updated what’s happening on the CG world, because I’m reading books, magazines and surfing the net. I used Sketchup for simple massing of my design, but I never did a really good rendered images. So last month I took a class for 3ds Max Design 2009. I’ve finished the course. Now the problem is my work is not focusing on doing rendered images or complicated 3d model, and I think I want to shift my career doing CG’s. Do I need to look for a job focusing on CG’s? or stick to a designer doing sketches or simple massing? Do I need to work for a visualization firm to be a good CG artist? Need advise guys! I’m really confused now! Thanks.
BrianKitts
Do I need to look for a job focusing on CG’s? or stick to a designer doing sketches or simple massing? Do I need to work for a visualization firm to be a good CG artist? No, you could do it by self instruction reading up on books and online tutorials as well as posting work here on threads for critique. You'd probably achieve faster results working in a studio in a collaborative atmosphere where you could pick up some quick instruction and have someone to directly ask questions to. I think it's more of a personal choice of what road you want to go down. If you seriously want to do only CG renderings and drop the design I would pursue an entry level position in a CG firm, keep in mind though you might have to take a pay cut. Or you could continue as a designer and study visualization independently and overtime improve your own product as your toolkit and skill level expands. frankie_boy
Thanks Brian K. for the advice. That’s what I’m doing now, reading magazines, online tutorial, etc. and still of course it still different if you have a guy who can ask about their working techniques for modeling and rendering. amer abidi
... and still of course it still different if you have a guy who can ask about their working techniques for modeling and rendering. well you can use this forum for that! seriously.. It think you should stay in design, and learn CG by yourself..after a while, you will even realize that it will make you an even better designer!! and vice verse!! Do not underestimate the level of knowledge you can acquire from the web these days! good luck either way!
