tom10
Hi all I am new to cinema 4d and have been posting a few threads recently asking for advice and have had some great feed back. With regards to importing 3d models into cinema 4d. I have downloaded from the c4d website the plugin to export archicad models however i am having a few problems once i open the model in c4d. I am unable to orbit the model holding the key button '3'. I have the same problem with 3ds models from sketch up as well. Has anyone had this problem? jackb602
What happens when you try to orbit? Does your view change at all, or does it change in an unexpected way? It may be that the axis of the objects is off in space somewhere. Try going here: Edit > Preferences > Document > Camera Rotation and selecting the Center or Camera options. You can also select an object and go to Structure > Axis Center and use it to center the axis within the object. Orbiting should then work correctly with the camera in Object mode. BillyElNino
This was something I struggled with when I started with C4D. As stated above its the axis being miles away from the object. Remember that when you import a 3DS all the objects will have the same axis point and need to be adjusted to suit your model. Have a look at the scale you are working in too, although C4D is units based rather than cm or mm etc I find it easier to work in cm and scale any models coming in accordingly. tom10
I altered the measurements to mm and this seems to work ok now. How do I go about applying materials to the model? Normally I just drop them onto an object however this does not seem to work with 3ds models. Do I need to add some type of tag??
