bharris
Just playing around with a scene from 3dallusions, first time i've actually spent some real time on a project. Dont know if i'll get any farther (still has bunch of materials missing, background, accessories, etc.), as school is starting up again. Just vraysun/cam and LWF. Crits, etc. are welcomed. Thanks
andstef
Hello, I think it's quite good for a first render. You already outlined the things that are missing from this picture (details, some background). ...but why did it take so long to render? 2h+ is too long for this picture in my opinion. Keep working on it. Good luck PS. I also am starting to work in LWF, what method do you use?
RODRI
very nice. may be needs some textures in furniture. luck!!
skala67
darken the TV screen and add some slight reflection or specular action...
bharris
Thanks...Like i said there is tons of stuff i'd like to put into it still (tv screen, yes). But just no time right now. 2 hr render time - original is 2000x1200 i think, i had a lot of trouble clearing up the noise in the glossy reflection on the floor, so i had to jack up the subdivs on the material to 40. Guest FlaviusC
floor looks good. I suppose it's Arroway Wood
mfured20
ha, floor's definately arroway... as for the long render times, instead of raising your material subdivisions so much, try to adjust the glossiness and reflectivity values while leaving the subds low. I almost never raise mine above 15 materials subds, unless I have something really close the the camera in the foreground. it could save you a lot of time when you go to render the final image. bharris
Ya its arroway, the very first one in the pack actually, ebony. I wanted the blurry reflection so that the floor wasnt mirrorish. I think its at .86 refl. glossiness. At 15 subdivs, i get more noise than i want, so its at 32 right now i believe. mfured20
hey Brett I went back to check out how I have used arroway textures in the past. I realized that I have always changed the reflection maps that they send with their disk. check out the images that I have attached. One is the original color of the refection map [the nearly white one], another is the one that I used [the much darker image], and the third is the way it rendered out. This change of source material allows me to decrease my subds significantly, and still get an only slightly reflective material. wood settings: normal diffuse map altered reflection map, darkened in photoshop using the brightness option altered bump map, made more contrasty, at 50 reflective glossiness: .86 subdivisions: 18 rendering time: not completely sure, this is an older job, but i believe that it was about 2 hours for a 3200 x 2400 image. rendered in LWF, 2.8 GH Quad, 4 Gigs RAM, thru backburner. maybe by trying this type of method you can get your rendering times down. good luck! - matt
