Craig Ramsay
Im still using Max4 at the moment but thinking about upgrading to max5. Can anyone tell me what Max5's new poly tools are like? I use the Meshtools plugin at the moment for poly modeling Cheers
MrCAD
well max5 has similar tools as meshtools but its builtin max5 so its much stable..anyways there are new meshtools for max5 too which max5 does'nt provide..indeed meshtools are really good and really speed up the work. In short meshtools are one step still ahead so whether its max4 or 5 u will need to install them. MrCAD

adam3d
Actually ugrading to Max5 couldn't be a better idea. The new poly tools are more advanced thant he scripts and they're supported and updated by discret. Plus more tools are on the way, so knowing how to work them efficiently will give you a leg up on production workflow and efficiency. (the programmer for poly tools is in Minneapolis and is a great guy). If anyone has suggestionss, send them to me and I'll make sure he gets them. adam.holmes@autodesk.com (keep em short and sweet Other good reasons to upgrade: more UI options, new animation tools, GI and radiosity rendering (lightscape integrated), layers from Autocad, more scriptability, advanced texture UV mapping, more materials and shaders, much improved/faster shadows and lights (for GI rendering), new Backburner2 for network rendering...as you can see it's quite a list. (and that's the short list) Plus, with the new Subscription program you get updates as we release, plus extra tools you'd have to wait for without Subscription (check discreet.com for details) Call your local reseller for a demo, get a free demo CD from our website, and check out our new E-learning options. thanks, adam
mzagorski
Hmm.. I think that anyone who says: "GI and radiosity rendering (lightscape integrated)" is having a laugh... Lightscape wasn't integrated... and it doesn't come close in speed to LS, it eats up RAM etc.
RuiRibeiro
Yeah, i think mzagorski is right, If that was the case (lightscape integrated), max would be an almost perfect software. c u, Rui.
Wampa
On CD2 Max 5 is Meshtools 3.0. Now you can have Meshtools functions in Quad Menu.
Guest petrolium
Hi...some of my new favorits Constrain the movement of subobjects along face or edge. xtrude face along spline. Shrink and grow subobject selections. The option to turn ur subobject selection( ex poly ) into any other subobject (ex vertex ) by holding down control when selectin the specific subobject in the polymeny.
