Dave Oliver
in quite a few scenes i have had problems with what seems like materials corrupting, or my material editor coming up with strange errors. specifically the 'unhadled exception' one at render time. im wondering if there is a way to clear all the materials out of not only the material editor, but the scene and material/map browser completelty, and start over Edited September 7, 2008 by dave5264
andstef
Hello, you can try to select all objects in you scene, go in the material editor, press the get matterial button, and drag the "NONE" to you scene and chose assign to selection, then go in the Utilities menu of the Material Editor, and chose reset material editor slots, or you can go in the Utilities panel (not the material editor Utilities menu) click "more..." and chose "UVW remove" select objects and click to remove UVW, Material , or both, and than go in the material editor in the utilities menu and chose "reset material editor slots". Good luck
mfured20
You could just select all of the objects and give them a generic material, but one that you KNOW isn't compromised. Then open a new file, and merge in the objects into a fresh scene that hasn't been contaminated. You can then go about retexturing them. You can make the process fairly easy too by picking all the objects with a certain material on them thru the 'select by material' button in the MatEd, then grouping them together.. that way when you merge it into the new file, you can just click the group called 'glass', or whatever, and apply a new texture to that whole group. Hopefully you wouldnt lose much time. Good luck.
Dave Oliver
thanks for the advice. i ended up xrefing the objects and merging them into a new scene. i guess i should have used a different post title, because im not really sure what the problem is. it seems like the material editor itself goes bad, but if i merge just the objects into a new scene it works fine.
