Jtrudeau
Hi Everyone, I have upgraded to 2009 design and am having problems with a pretty simply rendering. The second "pass" with the rendering leaves out areas and doesn't include the transparency info. I have attached an image to help things along. I have a pretty crappy computer at work and I'm wondering if it's that Thanks in advance
Ky Lane
Thats nothing to do with your graphics card. Youre probably running out of memory. Drop your final gather toggle down to the lowest setting. Theres not enough going on there to need massive FG.
voltaire_ira
I had the same problem before when I converted my old scene which was vray to mentalray render. What happened was the scene crashed and I continued working on the autoback.max recovered file. To solve this, I carefully started from scratch and saving as often so that I have a clean file to go back to after a crash. It renders fine after that. I think some data gets corrupted or not fully recovered after a crash. If you can redo your scene from scratch and start fresh, maybe this can solve your issues. Jtrudeau
Ky- I tried what you suggested both turning the FG way down and off with no luck. Any other things you can suggest. I've never has this problem in Max 9 with my Mac Pro so I am wondering what it could be . Computer or software? the scene is pretty simple and the problem only seems to be on the water where it should be transparent but you still see only reflection in some spots not the rocks below. Justin Hunt
Have you by any chance got "Draft Mode" turn on in the Final Gather dialogue? jhv
Jtrudeau
I've tried all the preset from draft to high. Would anything be created by hardware that was lagging. I keep tweaking the render settings but the same thing keeps happening . The material use for the water was: promaterials-water provided with Max. 2009, could that be it? Jtrudeau
I tried a different material for the Water (Arch +Design) and got the same results. It only seems to effect the transparency of the top of the water. I'm starting to think its a computer issue. THe computer I'm using is a Dell precision 380 which is pretty weak. PLease help, this is driving me crazy!! There's an attachment of the results with the Different material. Thanks, Justin

Jtrudeau
Aparently I haven't read the forum rules. Is this forbidden? I 'm just trying to get this annoying porblem solved by people who know a great deal morea about Max. Do you have any suggestions?
frank1331
If you render directly to a file and check-off the rendered frame window, does the same thing happen? I ran into a similar issue, and found out I got better results when I did this.
Matt McDonald
Aparently I haven't read the forum rules. Is this forbidden? I 'm just trying to get this annoying porblem solved by people who know a great deal morea about Max. Do you have any suggestions? Unfortunately I don't know how to fix the problem that you are having. But you've got ten or so people here and ten or so people on the other thread trying to help you. If it is just one thread then everyone can easily read what has been suggested and what you have tried. That's why cross posting is no good for you. Its no good for other folks who are trying to get a problem solved because with multiple, identical (albeit differently titled) posts. You are getting more real estate on the forums (so to speak). Jtrudeau
I'll try that and let you know. I hope your right. I don't understand why I would have to do this in the first place. A bug in 2009 ? Never had this happen in 9.
Jtrudeau
Thanks All, I figured it out. It was just slopping modeling on my part. The water had a thickness to it creating wierd light bounces and reflection problems. Thanks everyone for your help.
