Lighting

Hello i am currently using 3ds max 5, the scene i am creating contains lights of which i am having trouble getting to work

To explain my circumstances : i do not design in 3ds max all drawing is done in AutoCAD and then imported. Would this create problems with the lighting or any other items for that matter.

My main problem is getting the lighting to show, after i have set up my lights and done radiosity my model in the perspective viewport turns black. Any suggestions or ideas appreciated

Hi David,

First, make sure Logarithmic Exposure Control is enabled in the Environment dialog.

If that isn't it, make sure your system units and the imported geometry match. If you suspect that it is a units issue, check the length of a known distance. Adjust the units accordingly.

I'm not sure if this would be an issue, but in Max, the Ambient and Diffuse colors of materials have to be locked for radiosity.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Fran, i have turned on Logarithmic Exposure Control and it has made a difference though i still have a black output in perspective (only when Display Radiosity In Viewport is checked on the advanced lighting page) is this normal ?

Hmmm. No it isn't normal. What lighting are you using in your scene? Are you saying that the other viewports display the radiosity properly and that you get light when Display Radiosity is disabled? What video mode are you in (Software, OpenGL, DirectX)? This is sounding like something I can't help with. Sorry.
