Craig Ramsay
I am trying to prodice a sectional view through a building using cliping planes. I have a wide angled camera in the scene so when I use the cameras clipping planes the slice is curved which is not what im after. Im really trying to get a flat section through the building using viewport cliping but it won't render the section Is this just a viewport feature or can it be rendered? Cheers Craig
STRAT
use the slice plain modifier, much more reliable
Craig Ramsay
Yeah that kind of works but it actually slices the geometry so if I am using GI then the result is not correct Really I just want part of the model to be hiden from rendering with a crop parallel to the viewport without affecting the geometry in the scene Craig
andymcnair
Hi Craig, i had the same problem a while back. I think i went around it the long winded way but it seemed to work. Resaved the file, attached all objects you're cutting through, sliced it, detached it and then unclicked the renderable button in the properties of the section you want invisible. Good luck. Craig Ramsay
Yep that seems like the only way to do it There must be a script or a plugin to do this... I will have a hunt Craig

quizzy
save as?? what's that?? I use the increment on save oprion, so I keep my old copies forever.. When a project is finished I delete all obsolete files except for the last 3. BTW if you guys find such a script, please post a link in the script section in this forum.. CHEERS! Craig Ramsay
Will do quizzy Yeah Andy use the incramental save... very handy if max crashes and f**ks up your file! I got the animation sorted, I ended up using divx and used the new mac divx codec to play the anim on the G4 laptop phew!!! Craig
plastic
well, i did a script called deconstructor which slices through an object along a 3-dimensional orthographic matrix and tries to cap the holes. it creates single objects out of the slices so its easy to show and hide levels.
