lucho
Hi, i think is a bit difficult that someone could bring you something specific like an orphanage, but i think is a excellent choice to your students that you could start to use Archicad, as you say Archicad is totally different to autocad, Archicad is a BIM program not just a cad program, and in case of your students the software could help them to think in 3d and in the way that the real constructions are built. This is one of the most important differences between a BIM program and a CAD program, the meaning to design not just in a plan, something very wrong and simple, very popular at our times but erroneus. Think in space and proportions and the way the things are built is the correct choice for your students. Good luck Lucho
AJLynn
Do you actually want to build this? Good cause or not, no responsible architect would give you a fully drawn up design, and anyway you'll have a whole set of requirements. I'd recommend sticking with Autocad if that's what you know and you need to do a set of drawings. Don't let software interfere with your architecture. SandmanNinja
VTC has some GOOD AutoCAD tutorials, 2D and 3D. They have free videos for download and then the harder stuff is for sale, but affordable. http://www.vtc.com/ Specifically: http://www.vtc.com/products/AutoCAD-2004-for-Architects-tutorials.htm The other tutorials for the older versions of AutoCAD don't have 3D (least last time I checked), but 2004 does. I have no idea why they want us to do an architects job, that could take 2/3 month to do in 5 weeks !!!!
shaneis
Why not just take a walk across campus and ask one of the architecture students to help? That way all IP is protected by the University - the lecturers may even award extra-curricular credit both ways. Offer a few rounds at the Student Union bar as payment and I'm sure you'll find a keen volunteer...or 12.
