pwharton
This is sort of from a photograph (I changed things in my version), a rather simple scene I am working on in an effort to keep learning MR in Max. I can’t seem to get the shadows under the chairs and under the portal to lighten up. I am using mr sun/sky and photometric light on the interior. I have one bounce in FG, GI is on and set to default. This is straight out of max, no post, looking for C & C.
Dave Oliver
problems with contrast is the thing that most makes an image look CG. because almost all old cg images lacked indirect illumination. you definitely need to find a way to get more light bounces. then you will have a way to fix the overbright/too dark issues
pwharton
What would you suggest? more bounces or adjusting the GI?
Dave Oliver
i dont really know that much about mental ray. it seems logical that with more bounces, and a less intense light, you would get a more even distribution for the samples (the extra bounces would increase the resulting intensity back to the original levels). but once you get the samples into a ballpark range the color mapping or whatever setting MR uses for exposure control would be able to fine tune it
pwharton
Thanks, I'll play with it.
mskin
is this a mr sky/sun - daylight system? if using max 2009 you may want to play with the exposure settings.
pwharton
Yes this is max 09, I will play with it a little. I am trying to learn a little more about that system.
