A.Mitov
I am given a map with the terrain elevations (see attachment). What would be the best method of making it in 3ds max?
classix
Move the contourlines to the right elevation. Attach to a single editable spline and turn into terrain object: "compound objects / terrain" Hope that helps http://www.einherzfuerpixel.de
TheMulf
That terrain is rather low on the topo-line count IMHO. Pretty much what classix said, when I import them they are usually arranged by their height from water level. I then make sure they are all one spline and run a terrain modifier on them. Once I have that I will create a large 50+50 grid plane and confrim it to the terrain mesh.
A.Mitov
Now the question is how would I go about connecting the elevation points with splines? I mean aren't the elevations supposed to lie exactly on the terrain contours? Or I have to guess the order of creating the spline vertices and create them approximately by looking at the contour lines given? Edit: I conformed a segmented plane to the terrain object but after conforming there remain underlying polys. Should I delete them and use turbosmooth/meshsmooth to smooth out the new terrain or should I leave them and just use smoothing groups. When I delete them I am left with jagged edged mesh. What is best in this situation? Edited September 19, 2008 by A.Mitov
