UTI
hi everyone ,,, i was just wondering if 32 bitt applications work on 64 because iam upgrading from xp32 to xp64 so do i need to upgrade all of my software as well?
Macer
Yes most 32 bit apps work on 64 bit OS. The only thing that I've come accorss that wouldn't work was antivirus - I had to get a 64 bit version. All of my other software works just fine. Jim Mann
I don't recall having any problems with programmes in the past two and a half years using XP64 but drivers aren't as easy to get and you may find some web add-ons aren't compatible. I have ended up having to buy a newer modem and printer. I haven't been able to find drivers that will let me view Blu-ray, though I can create Blu-ray disks. Antivirus was a problem at first but have been using Avast antivirus since spring 2006 and that has done the job well. Aside from those minor limitations, XP64 has been great...and I use "great" in its most non-technical sense as in, it hasn't gone wrong and everything seems to run fast and smooth. quizzy
yes, well there is one major flaw though... Apple's Quicktime... you cant create quicktimes out of 64bit programs. you can create them using 32bit programs running on xp64 though. so for instance, if you would use .mov as a bitmap in your 32bit 3dsmax and render in 32 bit (on xp64) everything is fine. But if you need to render that scene later on xp64 cause the memory overhead of the scene is 64bit-demanding.. then you'll get a nice all black or diffuse colored quicktime. And thats not really funny. Why did adsk even allow us to select .mov in max 64bit, since they should clearly know this issue.
Antisthenes
even with QuickTime alternative ?
Crazy Homeless Guy
on a side note, 32 bit applications can not access more than 4 gigs of ram. more ram is the main reason to go 64.
