hey ,

I wanted to talk about Time in Modeling ,

I started working for an Architecture company and they Want me to be Fast ... I Model with Rhinoceros Nurbs Modeling , But I guess Nurbs Can't be as Fast as Modeling from Plans like CAD .

I wanted to ask which way is better and faster for modeling : Nurbs , Polygon modeling , CAD(modeling from Plan) ?!

regards ,

NURBS is bad idea for architecture.

sadly i have to disagree

i have in the past used rhino for architectural work and the designers for the project i am working on at present are using rhino for all the visual exploration (and from there we are using revit for the cd work)

i agree it's not suitable for all circumstances but for model making it works fine and has a good toolset

the fastest way to model a building is to use the software that you are fastest with... it will be largely down to personal preference.

if you want an opinion on a comparison of all techniques, i would say extruding splines, poly modelling, sweeps and bridges in max is the fastest combination of methods.

Most of my knowledge of MAX comes from game artists despite of being a visualiser. So, I tend to start modeling using shapes and turn them rightaway into editable polys. This is a personal workflow that works quite well and it's fast for me. Everything comes down to what Matt just said. Nurbs, polys, shapes, patches, etc are tools to help you get there. The important thing is that, if in the end the client is happy and you achieved this within the required time schedule, than you did what was best for you. Don't forget though: there is always space for improvements on your workflow and perhaps you discover that you're even faster with a different approach. Good luck.
