Landscape Models

Well, while tis is a very broad question, I'll try to pin some stuff down for ya. I do all of my topology in CAD first, then bring them into Max/Viz and use the terrain tool. shapemerge and detach roads, curbs, sidewalks, water, etc. so each has it's own material (I hate multi-subs for big projects, I end up with 50 or some materials in each multi-sub and jst get confused...) Model any above ground structures as well as landscaping beds, trees, flowers, and such. Add in some people and cars and you're done. THat is after a lighting scheme. I use radiosity for outdoor scenes because of the huge amount of ram needed to process shadow maps in large organic scenes with shadow maps. Hmm... I guess the best way to go about this is for you to start out with what you know, and when you get stumped, either play around on your own or ask the boards. Thats what they're here for. :) Good luck and dont get discouraged, it took me a long long time before I could efficiently create an outdoor scene (and as a beginning Landscape Architect thats pretty much all I do...) and I'm still way behind where I'd like to be.
