In AutoCAD the snaps are great! you can toggle through snaps and move around and work efficiently. In Viz or MAX I try using the snaps on a building model and forget it! It takes 4 minutes just for the program to calculate where the first snap should go much less toggling between snaps. It also prevents me from panning or doing anything in snap mode. Is there some kind of script that makes snaps quicker and able to be used? Will snaps work with anything larger than a low poly model? When I import an AutoCAD drawing and try to snap to that then things get rrreeeaaally slow! Help if you can, thanks!

I dont know if im crazy but i aways liked the Max snaps, i love the 2.5d and 3d modes, i dont know if everybody knows really to use it. Autocad should have something like it.

For example, has anybody working on a site drawing and discovered (after drawing many things) that you cant trim? and gone to the left view and see that the lines are all disarraged on Z axis? Its frustrating.

I migrated from ACAD to Max as well. At first I found snaps to be very frustrating too. Today I can say that I would never go back to ACAD to do 3D at all. My advice to you is to PRACTICE. Learn all the snaps functions that Max offers. Explore the transform constraint options and the advantages of 2d, 2.5d and 3d snaps. I'll assure you that in no time you'll find Max's snap system very powerful. Good luck

BTW turn off your snaps when paning, etc. Turn them on only when you need them. The hotkey is S.
