Ingsoc75
I've been messing around with Arch Viz stuff in my free time and I have a question to ask. Is there a standard human scale to keep in mind/use when creating a room or any architectural scene? Would I take a human adult who is 5'10" tall and is say 1' 6" wide at the shoulders and 8" from chest to back and use that as a human reference? I hope this makes sense. Neil Woodhouse
If you are talking about camera height then go for 1.8m above ground level, as for lens, photographers tell me that the 50mm lens mimics the FOV of the human eye, but i'm not sure about that. SandmanNinja
50mm is meant to be the same as Human vision. Some use to say 45mm, but that was a loooooooooooooong time ago (man, I'm old).
mattclinch
i'd say 1.8m is too high for eye level. male standing eye level averages between 1.54m and 1.78m. Check these books - Architectural Graphic Standards (Ramsey & Sleeper) and the Metric Handbook (David Adler)
SandmanNinja
I use a Biped set to 1.82m tall. I set my cameras to a height of 1.2m from the floor. When I take Architectural Photos, I usually 'scrunch' down a little bit, and I guestimate it's about 1.2m Naturally, I adjust this if the angle/shot/room requires it, but that's where I start. Ingsoc75
That information is helpful although it is not what I was trying to find out. What is the standard size human for reference when creating a room/building layout plan? If I were looking at a plan (top view) and I wanted to put representation of a human (top view), would there be a standard size for the width (right shoulder to left shoulder) and the depth (back to chest)? Perhaps I should just measure myself and use that as a reference but I was curious if there was a standard.
mattclinch
there is a standard, and it is all listed in detail in the books i mentioned. including everything from light switch heights, to wheelchair access dimensions and turning circles. very useful. Would these be standards for US (non-metric)? Actually that probably wouldn't matter as I could just convert to imperial. Gosh how I love the fact that my country refuses to make a switch over to metric.
