gsscott50@hotmail.com
Hey, I've been messing around with a lighting solution for a large industrial space. I want to use strip lights and ideally photometric lights with IES data attached. I have got an IES file attached to a 8 foot strip light, but when rendering i'm getting some strange results. Instead of a band of continuous light, i'm getting 8 individual point lights within the strip lights glass tube (image attached). I have tried a few different IES files which all seem to provied similar results. Can any body tell me what I am doing wrong? Cheers!
RobNJ73
Does the IES file correspond to an 8 foot strip light, or to a smaller lamp?
Tommy L
What render engine are you using? I dont see an advantage to using .ies for strip lighting. ies is usually used when you need a pretty play of light which is indicative of the bulb and fixture. Strip lighting is flat by definition. I'd make the strip light (simpl tube) and use it as a light source. Depending what render engine you are using you could make it an emitter or give it a light emitting material. Possibly with a small glow in post. Im doing a bar right now that has a lot of bare strip lights. Im applying a vray light material and playing with the color in the material to acheive varying color temps of the bulbs. Im also saving them as a separate channel to play in post. gsscott50@hotmail.com
hey guys. the IES file does correspond to an 8' strip. I understand it's probably not the most time efficent method of rendering out a strip. but i was just using it as a learning exercise to familarise myself with the workflow. thanks for your suggestions though veteran. schnitz
I have to agree with TommyL. I'd only ever use photometric's with a web file when I want the nice affect of a realistic light scatter along the wall. For a florecent light I'd make a tube with a Vray Light Mat turned to about 3 or 4. I'd then add a gradient to the lights diffuse to make the light look a little less even(Dark near the ends and brightest in the middle)
