dpcaltdcah
We are attempting to import revit geometry in max design 2009 using .fbx for the first time because we got tired of not having the materials import correctly with dwg. but now the meshes are super triangulated in wireframe view and I can't tell what the heck I'm looking at. I have "display triangle edges" UNchecked in my viewport graphics driver settings. but I can't work like this. see attached image.
BrianKitts
you're not alone.... http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/31348-triangulated-fbx.html#post216689
AJLynn
Does the Optimize modifier with Auto Edge work?
dpcaltdcah
it sort of works. but do I really have to apply a modifier to every single object in this scene every time I import??! that's a pain! I did read that other thread but I thought they were talking more about visible triangulation in the rendering. at this point I only care about the wireframe view. dpcaltdcah
I take it back, optimize is distorting and causing weird shading on some of my larger planes...
dpcaltdcah
I have an answer! I spoke with our contact person at the company we bought the software from and she, in turn talked to someone at Autodesk today. Apparently they are aware of the problem and it might be fixed in "future releases"--whatever that means. She did, however, send me a link to a script that solves the problem. At http://www.pfbreton.com/3d/index.html it's the one called Auto Edges. select affected meshes and run the script. It did what the optimize modifier did, but better. Aren't they supposed to work this stuff out before a release occurs? I keep reading how great the interoperability is with Revit and Max Design 2009. I'm beginning to wonder if Autodesk understands the meaning of the word, interoperability.
dpcaltdcah
yeah, the interoperability is great if you set everything up in Revit and then just hit render in max using only mental ray and their default "ProMaterials" and you never want to make any changes. but come on, who wants to do that???!
