units format

Hi guys. I'm new to autocad. I'm in the UK and here we use mm rather than inches. The problem I've got a dwg from a client that is using inches as the default unit. So, whenever I try to use the DIST command, it returns the measurement in inches. How do I change the units so that when I use the DIST command, it shows the measurement in mm?

1 of 2 things to try.

 

1. Check the default units "ddunits" and see if it is set to Architectural. If so, switch it back to decimal

 

2. If this doesn't help, you will have to do it the hard way. Scale the entire drawing by a factor of 25.4 ( 1inch=25.4mm )

You will have to set the units to Decimal mm and the Precision to 0 decimal places.

 

Then scale the whole drawing by 25.4 you should be OK then
