Stan Zaslavsky
hi guys, i know this has been looked into a couple of times from the threads that i found - but i couldn't find this specific question. when i'm importing from CAD in mm - i've set up both my system units in metric and display units in metric - but every time i try to import from CAD - its asking to rescale into inches ;( is there another option somewhere to set default import units in metric mm? cheers,
BobM
It should give you the opportunity to set it to the file's units when you open/import it which you say is mm also make sure that you set up is metric mm and not cm or metres
adricorrea
Probably you have, but anyway.... Have you tried Customize - Units setup. I have my as metric - mm and I haven't had that problem for a long time when inserting from Autocad:)

mattclinch
i would suggest making sure MAX has its sytem unit setup at 1 unit = 1 metre. you can set your display units to be whatever you like.. mm, cm, m, km.. when you import a CAD file, under the rescale option simply select the units that the file was drawn in, and it will set the DWG's scale according to the MAX system unit. Tommy L
I tend to work in cm, the following explains why, but everyone has their own preference (see very long thread on "the imperial system sucks!!") I find scaling in acad very easy, as there is less to go wrong. So I would scale everything to cm in acad. Then set the system units and working units to cm in max. Then file link and dont scale. I use cm because it is a more human scale than mm, more accurate than meters and i dont like having to use ' and " in spinner boxes. If there was a measurement that was close to ft/inches that was decimal, I would use it! Its the most human scale but I just enjoy the decimal mathematics. adricorrea
In Customize - Units setup - Display unit Scale select metric and then click in System units setup 1unit 1 - mm/cm/m/ft/etc;) Hope it works this time pd. my name is Adriana, (not Adrian) I am a girl:p
kbotnen
i actually want the units to convert from 1mm to 1m this way i dont have to type in too many 000 for every dimension You know you can type in 1m and 1cm instead of 1000mm and 100mm? But I agree with your point. Dont need all that zeros everytime -K-
