Justin Hunt
The basic principles are the same, only things are easier. The help files are first place to go, especially the additional help files that cover the Arch&design and production shaders. There is a heap of info there. I also recomend Jeff Pattons Blog http://jeffpatton.cgsociety.org/gallery/ Master Zaps Blog http://mentalraytips.blogspot.com/ VizDepot http://www.vizdepot.com/forums/index.php and mymentalray.com http://mymentalray.com/ jhv

SandmanNinja
Hi All! Thx for your refference. I found book from Joep van der Steen Rendering with Mental Ray & 3ds Max (Released 2007) Anybody have comment 'bout this book? thx It's out of date. Mental Ray had a lot introduced to it in Max 2009, and that's why Brian from 3Dats delayed releasing his book - to include as much info as possible on the new mental ray. video tutorials help me, as they show you visually and they talk you through the process, and they tend to get released a bit quicker than books. http://www.mentalboutmax.com has some great video tutorials. Hi, thx a lot for your share.. So, you mean that brian's book from 3dats, which is the last released is up to date for max 2009 now, including for interior scene? I agree with you about video tutorials, but a problem for me, sometime's it's quite difficult when i'm practising in front of my desk while watch the vids, it's just like more comfortable for me practising during read my book Another issue is,if i'm not wrong, i wondering why a lot of mental ray tutorials etc, mostly show the day view, is it because of mental ray cannot give the realistic result for night scene which is using artificial light i.e for interior scene? Thx a lot
Justin Hunt
absolutly not, mr is very good at night scene, just take a look at some of the vizdepot Charrettes , especially Jeff's http://www.vizdepot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7824 Main reason that most tut's use the daylight system is because its easy. Night and twighlight shots are just as easy to set up, just lower the sun angle and your more or less done. the photometric lights in 2009 play very nicely with mr jhv
