navnow
hi everyone... As u see in the attached images, its a simple bedroom scene with grey vray material (override material) and it took 3hr 28mins for this test render . Though the render settings are set to low. And this is a Walkthrough project (Bedroom shot 4 secs). I can't afford this long for a single frame. PLEASE HELP....
STRAT
holy smokes, some thing's seriously amiss with those times. yet the settings dont indicate that. what's your computer spec?
MrCAD
hmm...thats alot of rendertime..for a moment I thought you are using maxwell or fry avoid the matte reflections if used for the floor or the windows..vray normally takes more time to render it.. prolly post your scene..and lets do some benchmarking Meher
navnow
Hi Dual Core AMD Opteron 2.19 GHz 2 GB Ram NVidia Quadro GX 4500 -------------------------------------------- i used max2008 and vray 1.5 yeah sure i can post the scene if that could solve my problem.. but hw do i do that? Thanks for ur reply..
Trevor Tizard
I would test the scene with the image sampler set to Adaptive subdivision and the AA filter at area and see how that effects things.
Stephen Thomas
It hardly looks like those lights are on at all, I think the problem might be that you have them on the outside of your windows and don't have your glass material set up correctly. Make sure you have checked the 'affect shadows' box in your glass material to let the light through. Best practice though is to place your plane lights on the inside of the window. The long render times you are experiencing is due to vray having to search so hard to find any light rays at all. Darker scenes in general will take longer, but not that long if set up correctly. Incidentally, you should be able to drop the Hsph Subdivs in your irradiance map settings to 20 to speed up render times too without sacrificing too much quality. navnow
hi For test renders i thought 'fixed' image sampler should be fine. But will give a try with Adaptive. ---------------------------------- There is no glass on the windows or any object. Its just a empty frame (open with just a vray light). So there is no question of glass material. And for whatever light value and the setting i'm having in there isn't the render time toooo high without having any reflections. Stephen Thomas
Alright so maybe that was off the mark, but what are you doing to get such high render times? Here's a similar test scene with a render time of 1min. Granted that's 8 cores compared to your 2, but come on!
STRAT
yup, somethings definitely screwy, even for a dual. when test rendering dont use dmc AA. use fixed at 1. Also, use the override option to clear all materials, and hide the glass objects. if it's taking this long at zero quality i dread what to think the times will be when the settings are bumped up. Trevor Tizard
Perhaps try de-selecting "optimised atmospheric evaluation" in the Vray system settings area.
Stephen Thomas
Without sounding nasty, if you can't even get a simple room set up with 2 lights then I don't fancy your chances much with an animation.
navnow
hi.. thanks for reply guys. just wondering if there is more problem with my softwares. Im gonna reinstall them and try the file. and i just did a quick simple similar scene in max8 and did a test render.. it took less than 4mins. and de-selecting "optimised atmospheric evaluation" is not working... the estimated time is just shooting up.... so i cancelled the render. Hey hi.............. check if this help u.......... dual core machine wid 2GB ram is more than enough for this scene. may be use different technique for lighting............. firstly take ur 2 vray lights inside window and off its cast shadow........... and add a sun or a direct light out side ur room for the window light effect........... then set ur color mapping to intensity exponential with dark and bright multiplier 1.5......... try using only GI environment in environment tab.............. u can also set image smapler to adaptive subdivision............ and antialiasing filter to catmull-rom.......... also u can add a extra vray light to ur cilling to balance ur light.......... regards aabs
Joseph Petrino
I would also check "Store with irradiance map" on all your vray lights. This will decrease render times (and noise) by a lot.
Stephen Thomas
Well meaning though they may be, I think a lot of these posts are possibly adding to the confusion. The problems here are at a much more fundamental level than simply tweaking settings to optimise render times. We're talking about a one room scene with no materials and 2 lights. What he should be doing is taking it back to basics, stick with the presets unless you know what you are doing. Once you go down the road of changing every setting, there's no way of telling what's worked and what hasn't. Get the scene working in a very simple way first, sort the lighting issues, then texture and adjust lighting again once the materials are in place. Then, and only then, should you be worrying about how to optimise material and render settings to bring down your render times.
chutti
try just reset your vray settings. assign a scan line renderer then come back to vray.use most of its default settings first also give the whole scene a new grey vray material. can you mail me the scene? good luck!! gfxguru
hey please test this.... Please replace the plane vray light with Planes with vray light material.... This will dramatically reduce the time for rendering.... The exact problem your are encountering can only be said if i can get the file ... Nic H
^ dont do that it will look terrible. some GREAT advice in this thread i quit this forum.
gfxguru
Now in this thread the problem is not extreme reality....but some render time So what is advised is not a permanent setup...just try it and then check the time....same problem exists....we may check more into the software configuration..... Finally nicnic....The rendering may not go terrible by using a meshlight.....just for this test render.... Let him try and check the time...not the quality of the rendering....... it will surely give some clues about his problem....
navnow
hi all... sorry to say that none of the suggestion given worked on the file. To try the basic level i deleted all the lights and applied new grey vray material to the entire scene, i reset vray setting and rendered. (NO GI, NO REFLECTION).. It took close to 8mins . And i took the file to my frnd place, he had max2009 vray 1.5sp2 and we tested. HURRAY IT WORKED..... The render took less than 1min . (Lighting & Render Setting : same as attached in the first post). Now i dont wanna dig anymore on Why it is not working on max2008 with vray 1.5??? as the project deadline is nearing. And just finish the project in max2009 vray 1.5sp2. Thanks a lot for all u guys for the Help and ur time...
jafs00
i don't know actually, but are you using only vray materials and vray cams and vray lights...make sure there is no duplicate geometry.

Andrew1
lol, it's simply a cracked vray copy I know someone that could not afford to buy the package he was using max 2008 and vray 1.5 don't remember the version, he was having the same issues, that's funny I was telling him dude buy the software, he then switched to vray 1.47 and everything worked great. , I am not gonna slash throuts here cause I don't care whos is using what, legal or illegal that's not my business, after all all software can be cracked and all software can be protected... it is the company choice how they construct their software and on the other hand they gain popularity in the industry by making it crackable and accessible to Joes that can not afford to buy it. Cheers !
