Andrew1
Hey guys I got a small problem, I got this ring (gold ring) with 60 dimonds , now the scene consists of a reflective surface with falloff map and fresnel selected, the ring sits on top of the reflective surface of the object, I am not getting any caustics on that reflective material, all the materials are vray mats, rendering method Irradiance map and lc, caustics are enabled, but still not getting any ??, I switched the surface material to non -reflective and I do get caustics happeing, now when I switch that mat to reflective don't get any..., don't caustics work on a reflective material ??? How would I go about, the intend of the compositin is to have the ring reflect in the table surface with caustics... any help would be appreciated. shaneis
Caustic photons are affected by transparency, refraction and reflection. Your photons are most likely hitting the table and reflecting to another point in the scene. Three ways you could work around are; a. Render a caustics pass with the diffuse only and composite over the reflective original, b. Reduce the reflective value of the original table's surface, c. Don't use a falloff map, instead use IoR and Fresnell to drive the reflectivity.
