Munz
I am planning to set up a small render farm. I was wondering can you farm out a single image or only animations?

schmoron13
play nice, quizzy currently, you can't do a renderfarm using the scanline for SINGLE images...for animations, make sure you render each frame as a bmp... I think the new version of Brazil allows net-rendering single frames, but don't quote me on it...
Vince Paske
I'm not sure if you mean to use all the machine's you have set up to render one frame, or whether you mean to send out a single frame to one machine. Anyway, with Max's Design Extensions, you can split the single image over several machines (to have each machine render 1/2 or 1/4 ..etc) using the Network Render Region. It's great for rendering high-res images that would normally take a day.
alkis
max 6 is out and if you check all the features i m sure your questions will be answered you can pretty much do anything you want over a network so schmoron currently you can, and by the way who uses bmp's for animation? maube just you and not only brazil but FR and vray have very good network rendering capabilities both for single frames and animations regards alkis

mbr
With Final Render Stage-1 you can render a single image over several computers - distributed rendering. It's a very nice feature.
