hi, i am new to here and im a student learning architecture.

i have a question (may be silly to you).

can some one tell me a way to render a 3d model made in autocad by 3dmax.

the model is made of many lines not enclosed with surfaces.

what is the best thing to do to get a good result (need it for my school presentations)

10x a lot

and bdw a really great forum

i managed to get to that state, but then what will be the next step to apply materials, i have all the things of different materials in different layers.

and bdw if i have for example a door and a wall, using the same line(where they touch each other), with which the line goes the door or the wall????

MAX is quite different from AUTOCAD. MAX is a 3D environment that allows you to contruct your model in 3 dimensions using the lines imported from autocad. To be honest, MAX is straight forward once you grasp some techniques, in this case, concerning architectural visualization. However, it won't do you any good try to work on MAX without knowing at least the basics, so that you can for example navigate without worries.

If you go to the autodesk website (http://www.autodesk.com) and under 3DS MAX, you look for "learning path", you'll get some nice videos to get you up and running. apart from that, you get tons of free tutorials over the web.

Hope it helps.

Good luck.

i dont know if this will work for you but if you want to apply another material for something that is attached to a layer, convert it to editable mesh in your right click then select the face or the object and assign it a different material in 3d max
