Matt Sugden
Anyway to do Rotate and Pan the viewport while drawing splines in max? I often find that once I'm drawing a spline, snapping to a complex object say, that it would be beneficial to be able to rotate and pan the viewport to get a better look at what I'm doing. So far I can only zoom in and out, but often that is not enough. BTW I already have max enable to zoom in and out of the selected vertex so that hasn't helped. Derek Forreal
you can use the 'i' key to centre the viewport to where your mouse cursor is. that's about as advanced as it gets as far as i know. good luck.
nelpiper
Splines do not allow you to press any other button than the LMB while you're drawing them, however as Derek just mentioned, you can use the "i" key to center the viewport and you can use the middle mouse button to zoom in and out. That's very handy when your're using snaps with the splines. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Quique
Using the SpaceNavigator from 3DConnexion is useful for these types of situations. I think because no keyboard or mouse buttons are used, there is no 'interrupt' to the command of creating a spline, yet you can zoom in, out, pan, and rotate. Note, this is an actual piece of hardware, not a program or plugin.
