RAYMOND
personally I ride the bus (called TheBus here) reason why I am asking, the buses are so full that I almost have to stand and often the bus will not stop because it already too full. papers say more people have crossed the line where it is just too expensive to drive to work... city plans on a rail transit but has much opposition.. just wonder if you have gone over to public transportation or are a hard core car adict... uncomfortable issue i know. Antisthenes
the more people get layed off the less full the buses are is the trend here i mostly bike or ride a car when i have enough waste veggie oil collected then again the light rail just started running... BrianKitts
I'm a fair weather conservationist If it's nice out and I'm not late I'll walk the mile and half to work. If it's nice and hasn't rained lately I'll break out the bike If I'm lazy, cold, chance of rain, or wearing a suit for a meeting.... the car it is Edited October 7, 2008 by BrianKitts
mbowers
Rain, Shine, Snow, Wind or Tornado, i take my bike to work. It's 1.8 miles away and takes me 10 minutes, i get free exercise, pay nothing in gas. Gotta watch out for those crazy drivers though...
ihabkal
When I used to live in the US, I bought my house specifically close to work and I could walk 3 minutes to get to Howard Models, and I always joked that it would take me 2 if I could take out the house between us and walk in a straight line to work insteald of an L shape. In Lebanon I have my computers in my living room so no transit at all. When I went to Canada last year to look for a job I discovered that I had to take a car (or a bus) to the GO train station, then the GO train to Toronto, another bus from the Toronto Union Station to work or walk for 20 minutes. All in all it is a one or one and a half hour commute at least, if you count the trip back it is close to 3 hours of your day wasted every day, that didn't prevent me from still wanting that job, even though I had a panic attack in the GO train one day when I was coming back from an interview at peak time. I also thought about buying or renting close to work though. But I never went there after all.
STRAT
i got a 3.5 mile trip into work. on a good day with no traffic i can drive it in around 5-7 mins door to door. but theres 2 major problems, first is rush hour traffic. it takes 1/2 hour just to trundle out of my home town every morning (about three quarters of a mile). Then, when i get to work another 1/2 hour later there's a very limited parking area where i work which is heavily policed by traffic cops who just love issuing tickets. so i get the train thats a 10 min trip, and if i'm feeling healthy i'll get off a couple of stops early and walk for 20 mins or so. much faster, cheaper and more satisfying than the drive
Nic H
1 hr each way (bad days 1.20)- walk/bus/tube/bus, from east London to south. its really shit, london has horrendously crowded public transport, not cheap either.

SandmanNinja
I live in the middle of Woop-Woop, just past Black Stump. That's Aussie-Speak for Bush. My nearest neighbour is a kangaroo. I have 2 jobs (not counting the 3D stuff I'm trying to freelance). The 'regular', full-time job is 35-kilometers - each way. The other requires me to drive to a number of houses and photograph them. I've considered using a motorcycle or moped of some sort, but I transport a LOT of expensive gear that is senstive to vibration and rain. So, I drive. BillyElNino
My trusty bike. 6 mile round trip... I'm getting quite attached to it now as some little punks have tried (unsuccessfully) to steal it twice... When it's raining I kind of wish they'd been more efficient criminals! One boy genius thought he could crack the code on my lock, he obviously either was not very good at maths or had a lot of time on his hands for the 10,000 choices! The other 'just happened' to be walking around with a pair of 3 feet bolt cutters...

Guest STU_P
If the weathers nice it's a great 10mile round trip on the bike, if not or i'm feeling lazy i take the car. A friend of mine use to live near a canal and his factory actually backed onto the canal further down, so he went to work by canoe and used to walk through the main gates carrying it on his shoulder! Trevor Tizard
Well it's nearly 50 miles in each direction by car. That's a total of two and a half hours a day behind the wheel. Boring, and Rubbish!!!!
neko
mostly bike (25k round trip), but drive if i am in a rush or have lots of homework/books with me. when it snows, the city grinds to a halt, but i can take the 'skytrain' (longest monorail system in the world) and get to school in 45 minutes. Crazy Homeless Guy
train most days, but today i took the bus. i couldn't believe it, i actually was able to sit down. usually i either get the last couple of feet that are available on the train, or i have to force my body in enough for the doors to close. the bus ride had a lot less tension in the air. Camby1298
Defo walk or bike. THe walk is them most interesting. Start from a typical urban neighborhood, then through Little Italy -> China Town -> End up in the Financial district in downtown San Francisco. Much to see in only a 2 mile span. Tommy L
What a nice thread. Im a 1.5 mile walk, bike or drive from Milwaukee Avenue down to Damen and Grand. I like to cycle, but I usually take the dog to work and have stuff to carry, so its usually the mini cooper. The elevator is always busted, so I get my exercise on the stairs to the fourth floor at least 6 times daily.
Joseph Petrino
I'm a Manhattanite. On rainy days I take an east side train to 23rd street and then take a bus to the West side. On nice days I walk through Central Park and then take a west side train. Yesterday the weather was very Autumn like and the walk through the Park was magnificent.
